The BUTLER branch

The BUTLER name started out as Le BOUTILLIER, as our fore fathers were boot and shoe makers in France. They moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands, and then to Weymouth with the name change along the way.

Walter BUTLER was so keen to marry Winifred ROSE that he worked his passage to Australia as a hairdresser on board a liner three times, in order to propose. Read about their romantic story here

A comprehensive history of the Le BOUTILLIER / BUTLER family has been written by my mother's cousins John and Mary Butler. Please get in touch if you'd like to see it.

Winifred Rose, our grandmother, who married three times. Her second husband Walter was our grandfather.
